SingawayE17 (2011-2018) - see links on Home Page for post-2018 developments
This web site was originally designed for anyone in or around Walthamstow, East London, who shares our love of singing with other people, being part of a bigger and better sound than each of us can make on our own. With Rise Up Singing, we are spreading our wings beyond E17 to combine our love of singing with our rage against the horrors of war, division and injustice in the world. We are neither professional musicians nor particularly good singers but Julia has always enjoyed singing harmonies with her children in the car, folk songs with friends round the campfire, protest songs on demonstrations, classic choral works, and all kinds of songs in workshops and community choirs. Having retired from paid work in adult and community education, Julia has chosen to spend much of her time finding, creating and sharing opportunities to do what she loves to do in the area where she lives. This includes organising Singing Workshops and Singalongs, and bringing people together to join other choirs and musicians for community and political events. Jo Robinson is now a partner in SingawayE17 (pictured above in red at her 70th birthday party, and on the right with "We are Waltham Forest Voices" ). Jo brings her own particular pazzazz to the challenge of getting everyone, especially people who think they can't sing, to join in with a party Singalong.
If you know about choirs, singing groups, jam sessions, workshops or just a bunch of people getting together to sing from time to time in E17, please send us an email and we'll put it on this site.
